West Road Primary Academy’s Attendance pages are guides to help parents/carers understand their responsibilities in regards to attendance and punctuality at academy and the legal consequences surrounding non-attendance.

Attendance at West Road Primary Academy is one of our key priorities.

Regular attendance is crucial to children’s progress and success in the academy and to their later life chances and is therefore strongly promoted by our academy. One of the most important things you can do for your child’s future is to make sure they go to school every day unless illness prevents it.

Missing school means missing out. The more a child misses, the harder it is for them to catch up.

If your child is between 5 and 16 years old and is a registered pupil at a school, it is your legal responsibility to make sure they attend school regularly.

At West Road Primary Academy, we recognise that in order to improve attendance
we must all work together. The barriers to accessing education are wide and
complex, both within and beyond the school gates, and this is often specific to
individual pupils and families. We know that the foundation of securing good
attendance is to ensure that school is a calm, orderly, safe, and a supportive
environment where all our pupils want to be and are keen to learn.
